The ‘Weekend Update’ Team Is Going To Join In On The Convention Fun For MSNBC

On Tuesday, news dropped that Saturday Night Live “Weekend Update” hosts Michael Che and Colin Jost will be taking a reprieve from their summer breaks to weigh in on the Republican National Convention and Democratic National Convention.

Che and Jost will be performing special editions of “Weekend Update” July 20 and July 27, but they won’t be doing it at their home on NBC. Each summer edition of the SNL staple will be broadcast on MSNBC at midnight EST on each perspective day. To add even more perspective to the conventions, Che and Jost will also serve as correspondents on NBC’s Today.

Colbert, Che and Jost are not the only late night shows that will be retrofitting their shows for the conventions. Late Night with Seth Meyers will be broadcasting live once per each convention and Full Frontal with Samantha Bee will be airing a special Wednesday edition of her show about the RNC.

The political season seems to rejuvenate many comedy and late night shows. The hosts seem to thrive on the unpredictability of these conventions. Even after one day, the RNC seems to have provided enough fodder for these shows to last for an entire week. With all the yelling and a loose definition of celebrity attending this year’s Republican Convention, it is going to be fascinating to see what material the hosts will mine from it. This should be an exciting and funny week.
