Amazon Won’t Move Forward With ‘The After’ From ‘The X-Files’ Creator

Amazon Studios says that it canceled plans to bring one of its original pilots to a full series order. The After, from The X-Files creator Chris Carter, was part of a crop of pilots intended to be part of Amazon’s original streaming service early last year; Transparent and Mozart in the Jungle were among them. The idea was to have Amazon customers leave their own reviews on the pilots, which were available to watch for free, helping to guide the decision on the shows’ respective futures. The post-apocalyptic ensemble drama got mixed reviews, but was considered interesting enough to go to series in March.

But it turns out that production never began on a full season after that announcement and Amazon says it’s not going to happen after all. From VP of Amazon Studios Roy Price:

“We have decided to not move forward with ‘The After.’ We would like to thank Chris Carter, the phenomenal cast, crew and producers for all their efforts.”

The After followed a random group of people played by Adrian Pasdar, Sharon Lawrence, Jamie Kennedy, Arielle Kebbel, Aldis Hodge, Andrew Howard, Sam Littlefield, Louise Monot and Jaina Lee Ortiz, who found themselves trapped in a parking garage following an unexplained global event.
