As the year has coming to an end, The Daily Show took a look back at their favorite stories of the year. It was another year packed with huge events that are still echoing in society’s hivemind. After running down a few of the mass shootings this year (an annual event at this point), there were some broader stories like gay marriage becoming legal (and Kim Davis’ opposition to it), the many Dad dances from Drake’s “Hotline Bling” video, and the late entry for best schadenfreude of the year.

The second half had a few moments dedicated to Ahmed Mohamed’s magical clock that he brought to school, the surprising amount of celebrities caught in legal troubles, Rachel Dolezal’s racial ambiguity, and a take down of Pizza Rat to complete the entire retrospective. Looking back, it’s been a strange year. Not to mention we lost Jon Stewart to the beast of retirement, giving Trevor Noah a real test in the new year. Keeping the show floating at the same level, with the same coverage for an entire stretch. Going to be tough, but he’s doing well so far.
