‘The Exorcist’ Is The Next Film To Get Adapted Into A Television Series

The Exorcist, released in theaters in 1973, is one of the most successful films of all-time, and now executives over at Fox are hoping the greenbacks follow its adaptation of the film to the small screen.

The network has ordered a pilot episode of The Exorcist, and will be using William Peter Blatty’s 1971 source material as the basis for a series about two men who have to confront the devil when a demonic possession threatens the safety of a family. Jeremy Slater, who was a co-writer on 2015’s Fantastic Four, is writing and producing the show. As it’s just been announced, there’s no word yet on who will star in the series, nor a timetable for the pilot episode’s airing.

This is not the first time a film has been adapted for television, of course. Most recently, Rush Hour — the mega-popular series of action-comedies — got the television treatment, and Fargo is doing quite well on the FX channel, receiving a few awards nominations over the course of its two seasons. It would probably behoove Fox to wait until the spooky month of October to roll out the pilot for The Exorcist, and I’d put money on there being either a head-spin or vomiting scene (or both) in the trailer.
