Diane Lockhart is back in action, and she’s bringing her collection of power suits and power brooches with her. The first trailer for CBS’ upcoming The Good Wife spinoff has finally dropped and it is intense to say the least. The premise of the show, set one year after the Good Wife finale, is that Diane Lockhart has been forced out of the law firm that bears her name due to a scandal involving her goddaughter — also a lawyer. In the aftermath, both Diane and her niece (played by Game of Thrones alum Rose Leslie) go to work for the same firm as Cush Jumbo’s well-received Good Wife addition Lucca Quinn.
Many legal shenanigans, we expect, will ensue.
The first trailer signifies a change in marketing strategy for CBS compared to the original series. The tension is ratcheted up and they seem to be relying on a more high-pressure and action-packed strategy to sell this series. As it will only be available on CBS All Access (feel the excitement!) they need to not only get people to want to watch, but get them to want to subscribe to a separate streaming service as well. From this first look, anybody who enjoyed The Good Wife will be more than happy to pony up the money to see Baranski, Jumbo, and Leslie own every room they walk into while once again running the legal world of Chicago.
Delroy Lindo, Sarah Steele, Justin Bartha, Erica Tazel, Paul Guilfoyle and Bernadette Peters will also appear in the series so as if returning characters weren’t entertaining enough there are interesting additions with new cast members as well. The show premieres in February 2017, only on CBS All Access streaming.
