The World’s Next Great Reality Television Star Might Be… Vladimir Putin?

In what sounds like both a pitch for an SNL sketch and the television producing version of a heat check, wildly successful reality show producer Mark Burnett is scooting around Hollywood this week telling people about his idea for a reality show starring Russian leader Vladimir Putin. Kind of. Not joking. From The Hollywood Reporter:

The reality TV superproducer behind the TLC hit Sarah Palin’s Alaska — along with NBC stalwart The Voice, CBS’ Survivor and ABC’s Shark Tank, among others — has his eye on a series that would go inside the world of global government leaders. First on his wish list: Russia’s Vladimir Putin. If all goes as he hopes, others, including Cuba’s Fidel Castro, would follow.

Burnett went on to clarify that the proposed show would be “devoid of armies and politics” and “focus on ‘the humans, the nature, the animals of the nation,'” which is fine, and probably the only way this could ever work, but all I can think about right now is Vladimir Putin bumbling around his giant Russian house like Ozzy Osbourne, jiggling uncooperative kitchen appliances and trying to find his favorite hat or whatever for entire episodes at a time. With a silly little soundtrack and goofy sound effects. Lots of goofy sound effects. So basically just the Dr. Armond sketches from Kroll Show. But with Vladimir Putin. And real.
