Tracy Morgan Is Showing ‘Encouraging’ Signs (Update: Will NOT Have Leg Amputated)

UPDATE: Good news, a statement released by Morgan’s rep says “rumors about amputating his leg are completely fabricated.”

Tracy Morgan remains in critical condition following a fatal six-vehicle crash involving his limo bus, but people close to the comedian are beginning to sound encouraged about his eventual recovery.

Details about Morgan’s injuries and updates on his status are starting to emerge. The former SNL and 30 Rock star suffered broken bones all over his body, according to CNN:

Morgan suffered several injuries, including broken ribs, a broken nose, a broken leg and a broken femur. He underwent surgery on his leg on Sunday, [Lewis] Kay said, noting any road to recovery would be a long one.

Kay, Morgan’s publicist, said the comedian has been more responsive, calling the improvement “an incredibly encouraging sign.” Kay expects Morgan to stay in hospital for “several weeks.”

Meanwhile, MediaTakeOut spoke with a HIPAA-violating source “who WORKS at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital” on the condition of anonymity — so take this with a massive pile of salt — who wasn’t optimistic about the condition of Tracy’s leg:

[Tracy] suffered a number of traumatic injuries, the most serious is his leg. It was crushed during the accident. [Doctors] are working hard to save his leg, but it looks like they may have to amputate.”

The Walmart truck driver who slammed into the back of the Mercedes limo van, killing comedian James “Jimmy Mack” McNair and injuring several others, has turned himself in. Kevin Roper, 35, was charged on Sunday with one count of death by auto and four counts of assault by auto.
