‘Doctor Strange’ Drops A Trippy, Fantastic New Clip

Marvel’s Doctor Strange opens Friday, and a recent estimate pegs it as being on track to earn a surprising $73 million in its domestic opening, a huge sum for a November opening of a movie about a character many people didn’t even know about until now. But, considering the early screening reactions and our review, we can see why it’s a big draw.

One theme in the early reviews is people saying it needs to be seen on the big screen, with the IMAX and 3D being justified by all the crazy “Escher stuff” director Scott Derrickson pulled off. And the new clip released by Marvel is also a testament to this. Check it out above to see Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) and Baron Mordo (Chiwetel Ejiofor) flee through a city as Kaecilius (Mads Mikkelsen) bends, twists, and alters the environment around them to prevent their escape through a portal. Yet it seems like a small challenge for Benedict Cumberbatch when he’s got an Infinity Gem and Cloak of Levitation. It’s not like they gave him a real challenge, like pronouncing the word penguin.

This clip legit sold me on the movie more than anything else I’ve seen so far. Can’t even imagine how this would be on an IMAX screen, with refreshments…
