This ‘Walking Dead’ Actor Probably Shouldn’t Think It’s ‘F*cking Awesome’ Negan Is Coming

By now, you must know that Negan (played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan) is coming to The Walking Dead, and he’s already being hailed as one of the “greatest TV villains” ever. I’m not sure how he can be better than the GEICO Gecko, but we’ll have to wait and see, probably until the season finale. Almost everyone connected to The Walking Dead, from the cast to the fans, is excited for Negan’s arrival, even the person who should fear him the most.

[Comic book spoilers]

In the comics (which is to The Walking Dead as “in the books” is to Game of Thrones), Negan “takes a baseball bat wrapped in barbed-wire that he calls Lucille and he smashes in the head of Glenn Rhee.” Steven Yeun is well aware that his time on TV’s biggest show might be coming to an end (even if it happens in an unexpected way), but he’s still saying all the right things. Negan’s “arrival is awesome,” Yeun told Entertainment Weekly. “We’ve been waiting for this person for a long time, and in the comic books, he in a way brings a level of stakes that are kind of unmatched. And so, for me, for Negan to come into the show is, to say nothing less, f*cking awesome.”

Yeun later added that, yes, he knows what Robert Kirkman did to Glenn, but “we don’t necessarily do what’s in the comics. There’s a clear divide in the way we tell a story on television, and the way that story is told in the comics, because it has to be… We definitely tell our story in the way that television should be told.” Hopefully that way involves a lot of swearing.
