Weekend Preview: The War Begins On ‘American Gods’ And ‘Twin Peaks” Goes Down The Rabbit Hole

American Gods (Starz, Sunday 9:00 p.m.) – After learning about Laura’s resurrection and spine-busting powers last episode, this week we see Shadow try to work things out with his dead, cheating wife before he and Mr. Wednesday are kidnapped by the New Gods.

Twin Peaks: The Return (Showtime, Sunday 9:00 p.m.) – Now that the fear that the show wouldn’t live up to its strange expectations is gone, Twin Peaks is getting into the thick of things. Cooper’s evil doppelgänger starts feeling a pull to go back to the Black Lodge while Cooper finds a way out of the in between thanks to another look-alike named Dougie. Trying to explain any more than that is just pointless.

First Dates (NBC, Friday 8:00 p.m.) – The season ends with one dater trying to create a power couple, a man admitting he’s never been kissed, and a final dater unearthing a secret about her match that wins her over.

Doctor Who (BBC, Saturday 9:00 p.m.) – The Doctor, Bill, and Nardole trade deep space for ancient pyramids that appear out of thin air in the middle of war zones. Sounds like a fun trip.

National Memorial Day Concert (PBS, Sunday 8:00 p.m.) — Laurence Fishburne and Joe Mantegna host the annual salute to America’s military heroes. Performers include Renée Fleming, Vanessa Williams, Scotty McCreery, Five for Fighting, Ronan Tynan, Russell Watson and the National Symphony Orchestra. Gen. Colin Powell (USA Ret.), John Ortiz, Christopher Jackson and Ana Ortiz also appear.

The White Princess (Starz, Sunday 8:00 p.m.) – Lizzie and Henry face trouble in their marriage when a pretender to the throne is held captive at court, forcing Lizzie to make a risky move in order to secure Henry’s crown.

The Leftovers (HBO, Sunday 9:00 p.m.) – Kevin assumes an alternate identity in order to carry out his mission of mercy.

Silicon Valley (HBO, Sunday 10:00 p.m.) — A hunt for financial support takes Richard outside the tech bubble, where he encounters a contentious figure from Pied Piper’s past.

Veep (HBO, Sunday 10:30 p.m.) — Selina works on her book as her staff prepares for the ceremony to unveil her portrait.
