Weekend Preview: Is ‘Mad Men’s’ Peggy Olson Returning To Sterling Cooper?

Happy Endings (ABC, Friday 8 p.m.) — Last week’s bad news — that Happy Endings was preempted so that ABC’s news division could focus on the manhunt for the Boston Marathon bomber — is this week’s good news because tonight’s two episodes won’t be the last two of the season (or ever?). The final two episodes have been pushed to next week. In tonight’s episode, in the wake of her break-up with her fiance, Casey has a rebound fling with Car Czar Rob Corddry.

Phineas and Ferb (Disney, Friday 9 p.m.) — Are those of you who have watched Phineas and Ferb familiar with the zebra from the Candace’s dream dimension who calls people Kevin? My five year old is haunted by this zebra. He is so completely terrified now that every time he sees a zebra — real, imaginary, or otherwise — he thinks he’s going to be trapped in a dream dimension. It keeps the poor kid up at night. If you consider that zebra from the childlike fugue of a kindergartener, I can completely sympathize.

Smash (NBC, Saturday 8 p.m.) — There is no one in our line of business I feel worse for than the people who signed up to recap Smash on a weekly basis. Now that the ratings have bottomed out and it’s been moved to Saturdays, those poor saps not only have to watch Smash and write about it, but must do so with the knowledge that NO ONE CARES.

Doctor Who (BBC America, Saturday 8 p.m.) — It’s a TARDIS-centered episode this week, as Clara gets trapped inside with a few monsters, and the only way to it seems to salvage the situation is to blow up the TARDIS with Clara inside. We’re going to get a good look at the inside of the TARDIS this week.

Good Wife (CBS, Sunday 9 p.m.) — In the season finale, there’s a lot going on: Alicia has to decide between Will and her husband; there’s vote tampering going in in her husband’s race for Governor; and Cary announces he starting his own firm. My only question is: Where will Kalinda go?

Game of Thrones (HBO, Sunday 9 p.m.) — In this week’s episode, Tyrion learns just how expensive weddings can be. Is there a Vegas in Westeros?

Mad Men (AMC, Sunday 10 p.m.) — Peggy will be dealing with questions about her future after failing to secure a deal with Heiz. Will she return to Sterling Cooper? I hope so. The only person that can force Don to confront his demons is Peggy.

Vikings (History, Sunday 10 p.m.) — I love and appreciate that Game of Thrones seems to end one plotline in their ninth episodes and begin another in their finales, but I don’t encourage other shows to duplicate that. That kind of seems like what is happening on Vikings, after last week’s quiet episode seemed to start a new plotline. Also, I love Donal Logue, but am I wrong to think that his accent was too on the nose?

Veep (HBO, Sunday 10 p.m.) — Congressman Furlong and his put-upon assistant need their own spin-off. Make this happen, HBO.
