Your mom’s favorite show, American Idol — next to Dancing With the Stars, that is — ended its impressive 15-season run on Fox last night, in which a final “Idol” was presumably crowned winner. Of course no one really cares about that, because the star-studded finale featured a bevy of guests and performances, including Kelly Clarkson, Simon Cowell, Brian Dunkleman, Jennifer Lopez, Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Hudson, Fantasia Barrino and Katharine McPhee, among others.
But mostly importantly, as we previously mentioned, the American Idol finale brought back William Hung, so the reality talent competition series could truly go out with a bang — or a “She Bangs,” if you will. The season three contestant triumphantly performed his favorite Ricky Martin classic for the final time on the Idol stage, even though Ryan Seacrest wouldn’t get out of his dang way. It’s like, god, Seacrest, you’ve been doing this for almost 15 years and you wouldn’t know real talent if it smacked you in the face.
Hold the phone, though — is that a bearded Sanjaya wearing a colonial-style wig there at the end? Just goes to show that anything can happen on American Idol! What a truly magical show we’re losing.
