The First Minute Of ‘The X-Files’ Revival Is Here To Refresh Your Memory

We’ve already seen “My Struggle,” the premiere episode of the new The X-Files miniseries coming to FOX in late January. Of course, we and others in the press weren’t able to tell you much about the six-episode revival at the time. With the premiere less than two weeks away, however, FOX has granted viewers access to the episode’s first minute via a viral marketing website for the show, DoYouStillBelieve.com.

Visitors to the website can watch the minute-long introduction, participate in an online conversation about the upcoming revival, and schedule a reminder for themselves to watch the premiere on Sunday, Jan. 24. It’s a fairly simple setup, but thanks to the folks at Coming Soon, eager X-Files fans can now watch the clip on YouTube.

In it, former Special Agent Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) recalls his own personal and professional investigations into the existence of extraterrestrials and other phenomena via a series of photographs and a voice over. Die-hard fans will recognize major plot points from the first seven seasons of the original series’ nine-season run, especially those pertaining to the show’s mythology. Even so, the general reminder is a nice touch. After all, the show ended in 2002 and X-Files: I Want to Believe hit theaters in 2008.

Plus it’s fitting that, in the video’s final moments, Mulder simultaneously wraps up the X-Files pre-revival while planting the seeds of what’s to come:

“In 2002, in a change of direction and policy, the FBI closed the X-Files and our investigations ceased. But my personal obsession did not.”

In other words, despite his struggle to continue believing in and persevering in his life’s work in the second film, Mulder is still obsessed with exposing the truth in The X-Files.
