New Year’s Clip For ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’ Pits Spidey Versus Electro

Just after the ball dropped in New York City’s Times Square, Sony released a new clip from The Amazing Spider-Man 2 set in Times Square. The clip was introduced by Stan Lee, who just turned 91 yet somehow has more optimism and energy than all of us. He’ll never be a blogger with that can-do attitude.

The clip follows Spider-Man as he tries to protect the police and bystanders from Electro, who’s come to the electrical lines at Times Square seeking UNLIMITED POWER. Err, sorry. I saw the blue electricity and the black hood and I confused him with Emperor Palpatine for a moment there.

We also get to see the mech-suit version of Rhino for a split-second, just to remind us there’s an Oscar winner and an Oscar nominee as two of the villains here. They should cast Cuba Gooding, Jr. as Mysterio just so he and Foxx can talk about how cool it is to have an Oscar while Paul Giamatti shrugs and grunts resignedly. Not that I have any ill will for Giamatti. I just know Cuba Gooding could really use the work.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 opens May 2nd, 2014.
