Middle Schooler Claims Discrimination After He’s Ordered To Take Off ‘Frozen’ Costume At School

A male middle school student dressed up as Elsa from Frozen for his California school’s Disney themed spirit day. Then, his principal told him to take off the costume.

According to KTLA, the costume of 13 year old Austin Lacey was a big hit, with other students requesting to get selfies with him. However, the principal felt that the costume was inappropriate, and ordered him to take it off. Lacey’s mother said that the principal told her, “He was later informed that the principal does not believe that boys should be dressed like girls.”

The school district is telling a different story, issuing this statement:

This action was taken in accordance with district policies. At no time was there an indication that the student was expressing any particular message. The Principal’s action was based upon the need to stop a general disruption to the school environment.

According to Mashable, the student’s mother shared a flyer on Facebook that his classmates had made up encouraging people to cross dress next week in order to show solidarity with the LGBT community.

If these kids can pull that off, taking selfies with a boy dressed in a Frozen costume might be the least of this principal’s worries.
