‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ Finds Its Female Lead

The female lead has been cast for Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and she isn’t any of the five women we’ve heard about auditioning for the part earlier (Alison Brie, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Emilia Clarke, Imogen Poots, and Jessica Brown Findlay). Instead, Marvel has hired Emily VanCamp (pictured at right), who is probably best known for TV roles in Revenge, Everwood, and Brothers And Sisters. She’s also had movie roles in Carriers, The Ring Two, and Norman. I have seen absolutely none of those things.

The character Emily VanCamp will be playing is rumored to be Sharon Carter (Agent 13), the niece of Peggy Carter, who was Captain America’s love interest in the previous movie. The deleted scenes of that movie explained Peggy was still alive and living in the UK.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier will be directed Joe and Anthony Russo, who are probably best known for directing the pilot to Arrested Development and several episodes of Community and Happy Endings. We’re also hearing Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow character will be in the movie, which opens April 4th of next year.
