17-year-old Jacob Staudenmaier wanted to make a big splash at his prom by inviting La La Land star and Oscar winner Emma Stone to be his date. To make this happen, the teen put together a video proposal that recreated the opening scene to La La Land. With the help of some friends, he swapped out the lyrics to “Another Day of Sun” and even tried to seal the deal with Olive Garden.
Sadly, it was not enough to draw Stone out to the occasion. While speaking to Good Morning America on Friday, Staudenmaier said he got a response from Stone and she had to politely decline:
“Jacob, thanks for making the greatest proposal I have ever received. I can’t tell you what an honor that was and how much I smiled through that entire beautifully orchestrated video. I’m in London working, but I hope you have the best time at prom, and I’m grateful you thought of me,” the Oscar-winning actress wrote. “Thank you. P.S. I do see Gosling around the eyes. Love, Emma.”
According to his response, it seems like the teen is just going to go with some friends instead of parlaying his Olive Garden dinner date to someone else. Just don’t go alone on prom night. That’s a little too sad.
It must be a nice consolation prize to be told you do indeed have some resemblance to Ryan Gosling, though.
