Is it worth it? Is it worth going to an NFL game as a visiting fan?
Two weeks ago I had a conversation with my cousin’s husband. He’s a diehard Broncos fan and wants to come to Detroit for a game later this year.
Him: “Is it dangerous?”
Me: “No, Ford Field is relatively safe compared to other stadiums. It’s not Oakland.”
Him: “Am I going to get killed?”
Me: “I hope not.”
We laughed, we joked around, we had a good ol’ time yucking it up about NFL fans and how miserable the game experience can be (like the Cowboys fight from Sunday). But deep down I was kinda sad. Attending an NFL game is just not fun anymore, both for the home and visiting fan. More so the latter for obvious reasons.
On Tuesday morning, a disturbing video surfaced showing a Vikings fan getting punched and kicked by several Niners fan outside Levi’s Stadium.

The uploader of the video included what he called the full story:
The Viking fan in the video and a 49er fan NOT in the video were talking smack to each other, getting into each others faces. A lot of fans from both sides were telling both people to stop and just walk to their cars. The Viking fan shoved his wife into a barrier to try to get to the 49er fan, then at that point the 49er fan walked away from the situation and that’s when the Viking fan may have got a little cocky. The Viking fan turned around and addressed everyone behind him (mostly 49er fans). He said ” what’s up, any of you fuckers want some?!” At that point everyone went silent for 2 seconds then as the Viking fan was turning around to walk away, the 49er fan in the black (at the beginning of the video who threw the first punch) tackled him to the ground. That’s where the video starts.
Let’s not mince words here, this is well beyond simple assault and battery. This is attempted murder. Kicking someone in the head while they lay motionless on the ground is an attempt on their life. Even worse, there’s a child involved here. If you look closely at the :38 mark you can see him kicking the Vikings fan while he’s down.
(As others noted, that looks to be a woman in the clip. Hard to determine age.)
Everything about this video is trash.
I sincerely hope everyone, including the kid, gets punished. I’m sick of this sh*t.
