Florence Welch Rumored To Star In New ‘Star Wars’ Trilogy

And a million Florence + the Stormtroopers jokes were born. Only a day after Karen Gillan joined the cast of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, fellow redhead Florence Welch is being considered for another high-profile sci-fi franchise: Star Wars. Meanwhile, I’m waiting by the phone, hoping Deborah Ann Woll will be attached to me.

The Sun says that studio executives are keen to make unexpected casting decisions rather than use established A-list actresses, and that Welch is being considered for a “major part” in the sci-fi franchise, which is being helmed by director JJ Abrams.

“She has done some acting but it was her singing on stage that initially caught the eye,” said a source. “Every actress in Hollywood wants a role in the new movies but we are keen to cast people who are unexpected. Florence is being considered for a major part that would turn her into an A-list actress overnight.” (Via)

The Sun is about as trustworthy as Watto around a pile of gold that’s been labeled DO NOT TOUCH, so this rumor could be just that. But Star Wars has had success with casting singers as actors before.
