George Lucas Just Gave Marvel’s ‘Han Solo’ Comic The Greatest Compliment Possible

If there’s anybody whose opinion matters on Star Wars, it’s George Lucas. Sure, he’s responsible for the prequels, but he’s also the creator of the whole thing, and if he likes the work people are doing with his creations, he lets them know. And he just paid the team behind Marvel’s Han Solo miniseries a huge compliment.

The book’s art is done by Mark Brooks, with writing by Marjorie Liu, and Brooks made a pretty big-deal announcement on his Facebook yesterday:

While the world of collecting original comic book art is a bit obscure, it’s much like the world of fine art. Buying a single page of original comic book art is enormously expensive and can run several thousand dollars or even more, depending on the artist and the rarity. Buying an entire book’s worth of art is unheard of.

Lucas, of course, hasn’t commented publicly on this, and for all we know, the purchase may be for his upcoming museum. Comics, despite being a truly American art form, sadly don’t have much representation in museums: Words and Pictures closed its museum in Northampton, and San Francisco’s Cartoon Art Museum has been struggling, something Lucas would likely notice. Either way, though, it’s clear which comic he likes the most, and he’s putting his money where his mouth is.
