Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger — Scientists Create Breed of Genetic Super Mice

Oh science, you sure do have a thing for making mice do strange things. The latest strange thing they’ve done to mice? Made them super strong.

By altering a gene that inhibits muscle growth, Swiss scientists were able to brew up a batch of mice twice as strong as normal. These findings could lead to new treatments for ailments that cause muscular degeneration — or at least that’s what these scientists put in their grant applications. In reality these guys are probably dreaming of injecting themselves with the stuff and cruising the library for scientist chicks.

“Let me carry that box of beakers baby — I have the strength of two normal scientists. Oof, wow, still kind of heavy. Maybe if you take the other end…”

Oh, and super strength wasn’t the only power they managed to give these mice. They also had super endurance and an extra resistance to cold. I can only imagine the havoc this is going to cause in the world of professional cross-country skiing.
