Well you just knew that there’d be Hurricane Sandy time lapse videos, didn’t you? I mean, OF COURSE there would be. And I, for one, am not complaining as I tend to find these things utterly mesmerizing. I’ve so far run across two that I think are worth taking a look at.
The first, embedded above, was captured by Richard Shepherd with a camera mounted to the top of the New York Times building in Midtown Manhattan. He writes:
I captured this by writing a script to grab a copy of the latest image from the webcam NYTimes have pointed out over NYC. Runs from about Noon on the 29th Of October, till about half nine am on the 30th October, 2012.
No idea about why the camera moves, I’m guessing someone knocked the tripod or the building swaying in the wind caused it. It’s not one of the most stable setups it would seem.
The one below comes to us via Jalopnik.
A camera on top of 2 Northside Piers shows New York before Sandy rolled in, its destructive approach, and the sudden loss of power as the storm surge flooded lower Manhattan.
This is the best angle and the longest exposure we’ve yet seen of Sandy’s full impact. The video was created by Silas Maniatis.
