Homemade Archimedes Heat Ray

Eric Jacqmain, a teenager from Indiana, built this solar death ray using $90 of materials, including an old 42″ diameter satellite dish, 5800 mirrors, and the cojones (recklessness?) to hold stuff in his bare hand and move it toward the concentrated ray of light.  Awesomely safe.  So safe, in fact, that the video below says, “Unfortunately, the R5800 was completely destroyed in a burning shed on December 13, 2010.”  OMG, HOW DID THAT HAPPEN?  We’ll just never know.

Now the teen is planning to build a bigger death ray with 32,000 mirrors, because why not?  All I know is, back in my day, you got sent to the principal’s office for making homemade solar death ray devices. Kids these days with their heat rays and their hippity hop music, stealing the onion for their belt instead of paying for it honestly with money earned in the gypsum mine. Grumble grumble things cost more now.

You can see the solar death ray in action in the video below, or you can close your eyes and be whisked away to a land of new age relaxation and douchebaggery by the incongruent background music.  Why am I suddenly wearing yoga pants? What have you done to me, background music?  All the other bloggers are going to laugh at me for having pants on.
