James Cameron Still Doing “Battle Angel Alita?”

It’s hard for me to get excited over any James Cameron news these days, if I’m being honest. He went from a lean, precise action filmmaker to…well…George Lucas: a special-effects obsessed dork who used to know better.

Anyway, Cameron’s in the process of turning out a couple of “Avatar” sequels because Lucas is building a laser to carve his face on the moon, and Cameron needs money to nuke the laser site from orbit, but after that, he’s going to adapt “Battle Angel Alita”. Apparently he wants to keep the whole story, including the lame “Rollerball” ripoff parts, so we’re looking forward to another movie when he could have cut an hour out of but this special effect just looks too awesome, man.

Except this time it’ll have legions of anime fans complaining about how he got the uniforms of the background mooks wrong and therefore the entire franchise is RUINED FOREVER!

I might sound unexcited, but I am excited, because one of the characters beheads criminals with a hammer. We’re going to see that. In 3D. Screw Shakespeare, that’s the ultimate expression of our culture!
