Does This Judge Trying To Crack Down On People Wearing Pajamas To Court Have A Point?

There are certain places where it’s acceptable to wear pajama pants. Like your home! And… okay, so there is an acceptable place to wear pajama pants, singular. Lately, though, people have been starting to wear pajama pants as pants pants all willy-nilly — unlike yoga pants, which can be pulled off in public to a reasonable degree — wearing them to anywhere from the grocery store to the dentist.

One place many of us would never dream of wearing pajama pants, though, is to a court date, but unfortunately that’s just what one judge has been dealing with. Magisterial District Judge Craig Long of Catawissa Township, Pennsylvania has resorted to hanging a sign in the lobby of his courtroom to remind people that pajamas are not acceptable court attire.

Surprisingly, you’d think that would be common sense, but not everybody agrees with him.

Carla Hays from Catawissa Township saw the sign on the Catawissa Borough Police Department Facebook page. She tells us pajama pants should only be worn at home and thinks the sign is a good reminder. “Suit and tie and a nice dress, no pajama pants. I’m sorry, no pajama pants. I agree with the judge,” she said.

Other people we spoke with believe people they should be able to wear what they want. “I don’t think it should matter,” said Michael Phillips of Catawissa Township. “If you want to wear pajama pants, wear pajama pants. It’s the person’s discretion as far as I’m concerned.”

While the sign is merely a suggestion, and Judge Long can’t actually enforce a dress code, one would think that those trying to get out of a parking ticket might not receive a tremendous amount of leniency if they can’t be bothered to put on real pants.
