A Kentucky Policeman Called Santa After Hitting A Flying Deer (Really)

You know that classic Elmo & Patsy Christmas song about a reindeer accident? Well, flip the title around and replace “grandma” with a cop and you’ve got this real, live police run-in from last weekend.

An officer with Kentucky’s Kenton County Police Department was hit by a large deer while on patrol last weekend. The run-of-the-mill accident, however, had an interesting twist – the animal appeared to be flying when it hit the car. While the deer was obviously mid-jump, the dash cam footage tells a more magical tale. So magical, in fact, that the officer rang up the big guy up north.

The Kenton County Police Department wrote on Facebook:

“We did place a call to Santa just to be sure this deer didn’t belong to him (we would hate to end up on the naughty list). He was quick to point out that he employs reindeer and that, although this deer did appear to fly, it was not a reindeer (we still aren’t clear whether we will be making the nice list or not).”

Just in case you were worried, the critter walked off into the woods, as seen in the clip, and the department is using the encounter as a “training video.”

While all parties were unharmed, the cruiser wasn’t so lucky. Hear that Santa? Maybe stick a repair shop gift certificate in the cop’s stocking.
