Why no one has written a folk song about humans punching carnivorous animals in the face to save their dogs is really beyond me. The level of heroics that we knee-jerk dog-owners feel when seeing our furbabies in danger is stunning, recalling the urban legend that adrenaline would enable a mother to lift a car if her child needed saving. But here is another example of someone punching an animal in the face for the sake of his dog, a two-year-old miniature dachshund named Bailey.

Shawn Hanson of Vancouver Island was outside with Bailey when he noticed a cougar making off with the little guy out of the corner of his eye. The quick-thinking Canadian rushed to Bailey’s aid, jumped on the back half of the cougar, and then punched the cougar in the face, which finally released Bailey.

Bailey only suffered some minor bite wounds, but Hanson wanted revenge.

He handed Bailey off to a friend, grabbed his rifle, and went to deliver justice to the cougar. Actually he just tried to scare it off with the rifle, but since the cougar didn’t seem fazed, Hanson ended up killing it.

Another lesson in animal justice.
