A Man Reportedly Killed His Roommate After Tweeting A Threat To Do So

On Sunday night, Arizona police responded to a Gilbert apartment after a man called emergency services and confessed to shooting his roommate. Police took Zachary Penton, 21, into custody after Daniel Garafalo, 41, was confirmed dead on the scene. The investigation into a reported altercation is ongoing, but in the meantime, Penton’s alleged tweets are drawing plenty of attention to the case.

Late Friday night, a Twitter account that appeared to belong to Penton displayed a wish to relocate “before I viciously murder my roommates.”

The account followed this tweet up with a description of how one roommate was stung by a bee, and both roommates were “literally” drunk and fighting. People took little notice of this Twitter stream (which included commentary about the new Frank Ocean album) until he was arrested with the news report mentioning the main tweet, which now looks like a real threat.

Penton reportedly told police that he and Garafalo got into a fight, which led to the shooting. He willingly surrendered to police, who believe they’ve recovered the weapon used to kill Garafalo. Authorities also reveal that they’re not entirely certain that the Twitter account in question belonged to Penton, but he’s been booked on murder charges.

Naturally, the replies to these tweets are a gigantic spectacle right now, but that’s the least horrifying detail about this case.
