By now you’ve probably heard that Netflix is removing somewhere around 80 titles on New Year’s Day and you need to rush to watch such classics as Troll 2 and Stop Or My Mom Will Shoot before they are gone forever. It’s sort of like the Disney Vault except without the fanfare and impressive voice work.
The full list is provided below thanks to the lovely folks over at Reddit, but I wanted to take a moment to talk about what this means for you. As a Netflix user, you probably tirelessly search the listings online or through the many apps available to fill your queue with entertaining options. So when Netflix starts removing things without notice, you get a little crazy. This is quite normal and I believe the DSM-V has an entry on this very affliction, one that can be amplified during these trying holiday periods.
Just know that every title Netflix removes will more than likely be replaced with an even better one, possibly that very day. We just don’t know what it could be. For every Van Damme we lose in this purge, we could be gaining a plethora of Eric Roberts or various Chuck Norris films. Heck, these very movies might even return the following week when the rights holders renew their deals with Netflix.
If anything is certain, the holidays can’t be over fast enough. I’m excited for what 2014 will hold in store for us, especially in terms of Netflix and the movies I will add to my queue and never watch. I’ve highlighted some of the best below, so you better get to watching before time runs out.
