The New 'Wolfenstein: The New Order' Trailer Has Almost No Gunplay, And Is All The Better For It

Bethesda

I’m beginning to think Wolfenstein: The New Order may end up being one of the sleeper hits of 2014. It’s setting (the 60s in a world where the Nazis won the war) is full of potential, and Bethesda rarely publishes a bad game. Also, the title seems to be getting away from the “Wolfenstein can only be a straightforward dumb shooter” mentality of past Wolfenstein sequels.

Case in point, this latest chunk of gameplay footage — it’s over four minutes long, but until the last 10-seconds not a single shot is fired. Instead it’s a tense, Inglorious Basterds-esque bit of gamesmanship between B.J. Blazkowicz and the evil as s–t Frau Engel. Check out the footage below…

Hopefully this isn’t just an isolated scene and tense scenarios like this are a major part of the game. More coffee pouring and less gunplay I say!

As a bonus, here’s a short dev diary for the game…

By the by, MachineGames is largely made up of developers who worked on the fan-favorite Riddick games in the past, so there’s yet another reason you really ought to be paying attention to this new Wolfenstein.
