We guess the New Zealand Mint looked at the Franklin Mint and decided they wanted some of that sweet, sweet collectible action. Actually, we’re not guessing, they’re just straight up admitting it.
New Zealand, economically speaking, is like everywhere else right now: screwed. So, they’re hoping to raise some cash by putting out a set of 40 Star Wars coins, with some old lady on welfare on one side and beloved Star Wars characters on the others. In true collectible style, although they’re labelled as NZ$2 coins, they’re actually loaded with silver, and cost a cool $400 or so American…for a set of 4. So, doing the math, the hardcore collector will be shelling out $4000 for the whole set, and then start weeping when they realize that means they’ve paid for prequel characters.
