Is James Franco Making A Documentary About ‘The Room’?

If you haven’t seen The Room, Tommy Wiseau’s (alleged) infamous worst movie ever made, you’ve probably heard of it. Having gained a certain cult status amongst hipsters (there’s a theater here in Seattle that shows it once a month, Rocky Horror style) it’s no wonder that our favorite hipster James Franco has an obsession with the film, and it seems he might be teaming up with old buddies Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg to make a movie about it.

In December Franco wrote a review of The Disaster Artist, a book about the making of The Room by actor Greg Sestero and author Tom Bissell. Franco does seem honestly interested in how Hollywood as an institution may have caused the desperation and oddity that allowed this film to be made and in Wiseau as a character. Of Wiseau he said:

This is the deeper level of Tommy: he is just a lonely little boy who wants love. He, like so many people with stars in their eyes, sees film not only as a medium of expression, but the gate to acceptance. … This is the hope of most artists, and the book turns Tommy’s sometimes ridiculous struggle into a paradigm for those wishing to be creative in a world where it is usually too hard to be.

In so many ways, Tommy c’est moi.

Whatever you say, man.

Recently Franco posted some pictures on his Instagram, possibly indicating a future film project based on the book (or just his love of shirtless Seth Rogen.)

Of course, this could be referring to another project or just that picture, it’s more than a little incoherent. But then again, so is The Room. The next picture is what appears to be a movie poster that he posted just after:

I think what we all really want to know is: Will James ever take Venerose seriously?
