Last night, something gloriously terrible happened. Or so it seemed. At Winder-Barrow High School’s (the ‘Double G Doggs’) graduation, wandering balloons blew a transformer, causing an immediate outage at the beginning of the ceremony. Tough luck, right? One might think they’d all just decide to pack it up, haul out and head back home. Right?
Actually, no, they did just the opposite. For once in the history of any educational system, cell phones came to the rescue and lit up the night sky like a Lynyrd Skynyrd concert.

Full disclosure, I was getting the play-by-play, as my fiance (a counselor at the school) was sending snapchats and texts with what was happening. What seemed disastrous at first turned out to be quite an evening to remember for all.
Bottom line, cell phones ended up (somewhat) saving the day. So much so that Winder-Barrow principal Dr. Darby said, “And I never thought I’d say this as principal of Winder-Barrow High School, but thank goodness for cell phones.”
Cheers to the class of 2016.
