Exclusive Preview: 2037 Is Worse Than You Imagined In September 16’s ‘Prez’

Beth Caldwell, just a few weeks ago, was working a dead-end fast food job and struggling to support her dying father, commonplace in 2037. But thanks to an embarrassing Internet video, endemic political apathy, and self-centered political gamesmanship run amok, she’s now President of the United States. This is not an improvement on her situation.

The setup of Prez, DC’s political satire miniseries, sounds strange, but it’s actually a throwback to an obscure DC cult favorite from the early ’70s about “Prez” Rickard, an 18-year-old who captures the vote in a satire of the Baby Boom and its political mores. Since then, Prez has had this way of turning up in all sorts of DC books: You might remember the concept turned up on Neil Gaiman’s run on The Sandman, or that the AI in The Dark Knight Strikes Again is named Rickard.

This take goes into the future and… slightly exaggerates the current situation and how things are run. Like we said, being elected president is really just the start of Beth’s problems, as we’ll see…

To see how killer robots, the nuclear football, and other potentially bad decisions shake out, check out Prez #4, on stands this Wednesday.
