Pakistani Social Media Star Qandeel Baloch Has Been Murdered In An Alleged ‘Honor Killing’

Pakistani model and social media star Qandeel Baloch, known in some circles as the Pakistani Kim Kardashian, has been murdered in what observers believe to be an “honor killing.

Baloch, a divisive figure in Pakistan due to her liberal views and provocative output, was strangled to death on Friday night. According to police, it was a family member that killed the 26-year-old.

“Qandeel was killed by her brother over honour in Green Town area,” said regional police officer Sultan Azam when speaking to The Express Tribune. The outlet also received confirmation from Baloch’s parents that their daughter was killed “following an argument” and that they discovered her body in the morning.

Her brother Waseem is currently on the run with police seeking his arrest. Family sources claim that Waseem had threatened his sister over her photos and videos. They also say that Baloch’s brothers urged her to quit modeling.

Dawn reports that Baloch requested security assistance from the Federal Investigation Authority three weeks ago. She felt her life was in danger and asked for action to be taken against those that put her identification documents on social media. Baloch’s request was ultimately ignored.
