R.I.P. Ernest Borgnine

Legendary actor Ernest Borgnine, who starred in three of the greatest movies of all-time, Marty, The Dirty Dozen, and The Wild Bunch, as well as one of my favorite Simpsons episodes, “Boy-Scoutz n the Hood,” has passed away from renal failure at the age of 95.

Ernest Borgnine, the beefy screen star known for blustery, often villainous roles, but who won the best-actor Oscar for playing against type as a lovesick butcher in Marty in 1955, died Sunday. He was 95.

His longtime spokesman, Harry Flynn, told the Associated Press that Borgnine died of renal failure at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center with his wife and children at his side. (Via)

And jeez, I didn’t even mention From Here to Eternity yet, in which he memorably played Sgt. Fatso Judson (“Yayyyyyyyyy”), or his voice-acting gig as Mermaid Man on Spongebob Squarepants, or McHale’s Navy, or Escape from New York, or The Poseidon Adventure, OR AIRWOLF. You are going to be missed, Ernest.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to watch Marty for the 23rd time. R.I.P.
