Sesame Street’s Kevin Clash, AKA Elmo, Was Delightful On The Daily Show Last Night

When I first saw the trailer for Being Elmo — the documentary on the life of Kevin Clash, the Sesame Street puppeteer famous for developing the show’s Elmo character — it melted my dark, icy heart and brought tears to my eyes. Then I watched it another 5 times or so and it melted my dark, icy heart and brought tears to my eyes over and over and over again. Needless to say, I can’t wait to see Being Elmo.

So I was pretty pumped when I learned that Clash was the guest on last night’s Daily Show. With that said, it was kind of weird and unsettling to hear the Elmo voice we’ve all come to know and love emanating from the mouth of a man who looks nothing like Elmo. It was a mild jolt to the senses. But still, it was a lovely interview, even with the whole senses-jarring thing going on — I particularly enjoyed Clash’s story about the airline stewardess who requested he get on a plane’s intercom to ask the children on-board to settle down and buckle up in the Elmo voice. That certainly would have gotten my attention.

Oh and below is the aforementioned Being Elmo trailer. I defy anyone to watch it and not be moved. I DEFY YOU!
