Opportunity, the Mars Rover that the geek community hasn’t turned into a Woobie, was poking around the other day and just let NASA know, “Hey, I, like, totally found some gypsum deposits that were obviously placed there by water. But, like, no big.”
Of course, that’s actually a pretty big deal, for two reasons: one, it means we might be able to put that water back, which means we’ll be more able to terraform it, which means we can do Red Faction cosplay on Mars. The second is that it’s a clue to the possibility of finding extraterrestrial life, or at least what’s left of it. Also, this proves definitively that there was water on Mars, which will help us understand more about the Red Planet.
Come on, NASA, let’s stop screwing around and start putting a Mars mission together. It’ll be fun!
