Okay, so maybe Geoff Mackley didn’t literally visit Hades, but he did the next best thing. He and a couple buddies put together a homemade heat-resistant suit and went and hung out beside Vanuata’s famed Marum volcano lava lake for around 40-minutes. How long could a person survive so close to the lava lake without a specialized suit? Oh, around six seconds.
