Meet Stephanie Banister, the 27 year-old poster child for Australia’s One Nation movement, which basically seeks to ban all immigration, especially by people from Middle Eastern countries. She’s making waves in her home country right now for a trainwreck television interview she did this week, one which some are comparing to the interview Sarah Palin did with Katie Couric back in 2008. But in fairness to Palin, Banister is WAY more stupid than she is.
How stupid is Stephanie Banister, you ask? Well, she apparently thinks Islam is a country (“I don’t oppose Islam as a country, umm, but I do feel that their laws should not be welcome here in Australia”), she thinks Jews are followers of Jesus Christ (“Jews aren’t under haram, they have their own religion which follows Jesus Christ”) and she wants to ban halal food (HAVE YOU NEVER HAD A PLATE OF DELICIOUS LAMB AND RICE FROM THE CART AT 55TH & 6TH IN NYC?!?!). Like, Palin, however, Banister is good at blaming the media for her coming off like an idiot.
“Unfortunately, they’ve completely twisted all my words and made me out to be a stand-up criminal and a stupid moron,” she said after the interview aired. If thingS don’t work out in Australia maybe she can move to Wasilla and become the next governor of Alaska?
