Stephen Hawking Has Joined Facebook To Gain A Greater Understanding Of Time Sucks

Acclaimed astrophysicist Stephen Hawking possesses a resume that includes 13 books and countless influential papers. I’d like to tell you a little bit about Hawking’s work as it pertains to black holes, the limits of the universe, and the Big Bang Theory, but I am not the kind of person that stocks information like that on my mind shelf and when I googled “Big Bang Theory” most of the results led me to information about the television show.

Clearly this world is growing darker, but thankfully, Stephen Hawking has decided to illuminate the avenue of our existence by joining Facebook.

World-renowned physicist and author Stephen Hawking has joined Facebook.

Hawking became a member of the popular social networking site on Oct. 7, just weeks before the upcoming release of “The Theory of Everything,” a biographical film about Hawking’s relationship with his first wife Jane. The film will premiere in the United States on Nov. 7.

Yesterday marked Hawking’s first actual post. At present, his page has more than 1.2 million likes. That’s impressive. Not Stephen Amell impressive, but you take what you can get. Here’s that first Hawking post:

“I have always wondered what makes the universe exist. Time and space may forever be a mystery, but that has not stopped my pursuit. Our connections to one another have grown infinitely and now that I have the chance, I’m eager to share this journey with you. Be curious, I know I will forever be.”

Hopefully this is the first of many communications from Hawking and the start of a dialogue about the universe from one of its foremost thinkers. I just hope that Hawking gets to the good stuff quickly before he discovers Candy Crush and the fact that black holes do exist here on earth.
