Thanks To This New U.S. Map, You Can Pick Where You Want To Live Based On Noise

The U.S. is home a wide variety of environments, but how different are those geographical areas when it comes to noise level? Well, thanks to a new study “based on 1.5 million hours of acoustical monitoring,” people can now see how their region ranks in terms of decibel level.

Unsurprisingly, the closer one gets to a metropolitan or coastal region, the louder things become. But, if you’re in desperate need of some peace and quiet, there are options in the western half of the U.S. that could meet your criteria. In fact, some of them are so quiet they’re said to be of “a silence likely as deep as before European colonization,” according to researchers.
