This Hispanic-Owned BBQ Joint Is Offering A ‘White Appreciation Day’ Discount

It’s nothing new for a privately-owned business to offer some sort of sale or discount to its customers. There might be a “wear a funny shirt” day, or a “people with babies eat free” day, or something. But this BBQ restaurant in Milliken, Colo., is offering something to people who are just themselves, as long as they’re white.

That’s right, all you have to do is walk into their establishment, prove that you’re of Caucasian descent, and — boom — you get 10 percent off your order. It may seem racist to some, and perhaps it is, but the owners of this eatery have a logic they are following for their “White Appreciation Day.”

“We have a whole month for black history month,” the owner said. “We have a whole month for Hispanic heritage month, so we thought the least we could do was offer one day to appreciate white Americans.”

If ever there was a time to adopt “whiteface,” now’s your moment. Some civil rights leaders are calling the move racist, and if discrimination is at work here, the store could face some fines.
