Today In Trayvon Martin On The Internet

You guys, this Trayvon Martin story just keeps getting bigger and bigger. I’m beginning to think that we’re going to need a separate internet just to house all the Trayvon Martin stuff.

With that said, there are three different things concerning the case I was thinking of writing posts on, but instead I’ve decided to combine them all into one post. They include: 1) the case inspiring a New Orleans cop to post racist sh*t to Facebook, which led to his resignation, 2) Spike Lee idiotically tweeting out the wrong address to George Zimmerman’s house, and 3) a video of Congressman Bobby Rush getting kicked of the floor of the House of Representatives for donning a hoodie, which is a violation of the old white man dress code the institution abides by.

First, Jason Giroir, the jackass Nola cop who commented “Act like a Thug Die like one!” on an article about Trayvon Martin’s killing that someone posted to Facebook. He also insisted that Martin was going to hell for some reason, probably for wearing a hoodie.

Reports Nola.com:

Giroir, who joined the NOPD in 1999, resigned Tuesday after learning that NOPD investigators had sustained misconduct charges against him and that a disciplinary hearing was being scheduled, according to the NOPD. The department determined he violated internal regulations regarding professionalism, professional conduct, and performance of duty.

“My responsibility to the people of New Orleans, as well as to the professional officers on this police force, demanded I take swift action in this matter,” Police Superintendent Ronal Serpas said.

After a commenter named Eddie Johnson criticized Giroir’s initial comments on wwltv.com as racist, Giroir responded: “Eddie come on down to our town with a “Hoodie” and you can join Martin in HELL and talk about your racist stories!:-P”

Next we have Spike Lee endangering the lives of innocent people with a boneheaded tweet. Seriously, even if he’d gotten Zimmerman’s address right, it’s still a stupid f*cking thing to do.

Reports the Smoking Gun:

With Twitter and Facebook continuing to explode with posts purporting to contain the address of George Zimmerman, property records and interviews reveal that the home is actually the longtime residence of a married Florida couple, both in their 70s, who have no connection to the man who killed Trayvon Martin and are now living in fear due to erroneous reports about their connection to the shooter.

The mass dissemination of the address on Edgewater Circle in Sanford–the Florida city where Martin was shot to death last month–took flight last Friday when director Spike Lee retweeted a tweet containing Zimmerman’s purported address to his 240,000 followers.

Jesus, people. Can we all try not to lose our goddamn minds over this case? KEEP CALM AND CARRY ON!

Anyway, finally, there’s this

It’s like we’re living in the tumultuous era captured in Sunday’s season premiere Mad Men all over again.
