Gallery 1988’s Tribute To Judd Apatow show opened on Tuesday, and the amusing art pieces are now online for viewing and buying. Judd Apatow has a been involved as a producer, writer, and/or director on a ridiculous number of things we love. Gallery 1998 seems to agree and set up a tribute show prior to the premiere of his next film, This is 40, the “sort-of sequel to Knocked Up” which opens December 21st.
Judd Apatow, perhaps more so than any other comedic filmmaker of our generation, has always managed to mine the angst of everyday life to create laugh out loud, and at times, kind of heartbreaking on-screen moments. He’s taken us all the way from high school (Freaks and Geeks and Superbad) to college (Undeclared) to 20-something life (Knocked Up and Girls) and what eventually follows (This Is 40, 40-Year-Old Virgin), all without missing a beat. In addition, Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy is one of those movies I can watch any time it’s on TV and still laugh at it. The Ben Stiller Show and The Critic were two of my favorite shows as a teenager, and it blew my mind when I found out “that guy from The 15th Annual Young Comedians Special” was producing and writing for them. And we can still laugh at references to Step Brothers, Talladega Nights, Walk Hard, Superbad, and Pineapple Express.
The large selection of Judd Apatow tribute art will be on display at Gallery 1988’s Melrose, Los Angeles, location until December 30th.
