Warner Bros. Immeasurably Improves the Next Green Lantern Movie by Firing Ryan Reynolds

Last year’s Green Lantern movie was a pretty big flop. Yes, it brought in slightly more than its 200-million production budget (around 220-million worldwide) but when you account for advertising costs and the money theatres take, the movie was actually a major money-loser (to the tune of over 100-million bucks).

I blame Ryan Reynolds for this. Why? Mostly because I really hate Ryan Reynolds, but also because he’s proven box office poison. Doesn’t matter if it’s a big budget blockbuster like Green Lantern or X-Men Origins: Wolverine, or a wacky comedy like The Change-Up — Ryan Reynolds can and will sink it.

Warner Bros. is hoping to copy the success of The Avengers, meaning they’ll need another Green Lantern flick to set up an eventual Justice League movie, and apparently they’ve already kicked Reynolds to the curb and are starting over from scratch. No word on who’s working on Green Lantern now that the slate’s been wiped clean — maybe Ridley Scott can add another project to the dozen already on his plate.

Personally I strongly doubt Warner Bros. will ever get it together to make a Justice League project happen, but I’m always happy to report on Ryan Reynolds being s–tcanned.
