A Vulgar Construction Sign Has The Canadian Transportation Ministry Saying ‘Whoops, Sorry’

Canadians are known for being exceedingly polite, but sometimes excitement can make even the best of us forget our manners. Taking decades of work and costing over $4 billion, a highway that circles the city of Edmonton has finally been completed, and some of the construction workers finishing the northeast portion of Anthony Henday Drive got a little creative (and vulgar) with the signage announcing the finished roadwork.

“New North A. Henday now open,” the sign read in a video posted to Facebook. “We done, bitches!”

Alieel Machell, the press secretary for the Alberta Transportation Ministry, quickly apologized for the crude sign.

“Two thousand people worked very hard to bring this project to completion, and there’s obviously a lot of pride in that work,” Machell said in a statement over the weekend. “It seems someone changed the sign as part of the celebrations; however, the wording is not the kind we would use and we had it changed immediately.”

It’s not clear if the transportation ministry has uncovered the identity of the person who programmed the sign, but we’re hoping whoever did it doesn’t get into too much trouble. There’s worse things in the world than a little bit of inappropriate language on a sign … like construction projects that go years and hundreds of millions of dollars over budget. We’re sure everyone in Edmonton is just excited the construction is done. Maybe not Jessie Pinkman excited, but…
