On the morning of May 26, 2015, students at Yale University were shocked to hear that not only had one recent alumnus jumped out a window to his death, but he had also stabbed his friend in the neck. The specifics behind the case were unknown for months, but Gawker did some digging, thanks to the Freedom of Information Act, and discovered exactly what happened.

Tyler Carlisle, who had just graduated Yale days prior, was engaged in a threesome with his male friend Alexander Michaud and an unnamed female undergraduate when, according to a police report, “Carlisle started to get jealous of Michaud and [redacted]” because she was giving him more attention. He grabbed a knife by the bedside table, and “stabbed Michaud in the neck area.”

(I have many questions about the bed knife, but I’ll leave it alone.)

The female undergrad immediately called 911 and attended to Michaud, while Carlisle “went to the living room and started pacing back and forth, saying ‘I’m sorry.’ Carlisle sat on the window sill and said he was going to jump. Michaud did not see Carlisle jump out of the window.”

When the police arrived, they found Michaud naked and covered in blood; the female undergrad, who was also naked, “was holding a white t-shirt to Michaud’s neck attempting to apply pressure.” He was brought to a nearby hospital with a single puncture wound in his upper neck and declared in stable condition by doctors. Carlisle was pronounced dead on the scene.

Michaud and the female undergrad continue to attend Yale.
