Hannibal Buress Discussed The Controversy Over His Bill Cosby Jokes On Howard Stern’s Show

Earlier today Dustin did a post on the controversy surrounding a bit Hannibal Buress did at a standup show in Philly last week, one in which he accused Bill Cosby of being a rapist. I actually had the fortune of attending the earlier show that night in Philly, and to see the way a random bit from a comedy show has blown up in the media has been almost surreal. Before last Thursday I hadn’t been aware of the allegations made against Bill Cosby, but the bit — which was very, very funny btw — was one in over an hour of material, and I honestly had kind of forgotten about it the next day until it started going viral.

So when Buress appeared on the Howard Stern Show this morning, obviously Howard asked him what he thought about the story blowing up the way it did and his reaction to the whole thing was similar to mine. Hannibal Buress has been doing stand up for nearly thirteen years and that bit about Bill Cosby in particular for six months without anything being made of it, so it just goes to show what happens when something gets taken a bit out of context. For his part, Buress said that this is the first time anything like this has happened to him and that he hadn’t planned for a comedy bit to turn into a bigger discussion. Welcome to fame, I guess?
