It has been almost four years since George R.R. Martin released A Dance with Dragons, the fifth book in the Song of Ice and Fire series better known as Game of Thrones. That’s actually not that long – readers had to wait five years between book three (A Storm of Swords) and book four (A Feast for Crows) and nearly six years for the aformentioned Dance with Dragons.

With Westeros only getting more complicated and Martin’s schedule packing out due to HBO super-stardom, chances are we still have a ways to wait for book six, The Winds of Winter. So it was nice of George to surprise everyone this morning with a new chapter from the book featuring Alayne Stone, Sansa Stark’s secret identity while living in the Vale. (As of this writing, George’s site was going up and down under the weight of our fandom, but rest assured it’s there.)

The new chapter, which weighs in at a meaty 6,700 words, is the tenth chapter revealed to fans thus far – although four of those were only read by George R.R. Martin at conventions and aren’t available in text form at the moment. The others are scattered across paperback editions or included with paid apps, or appear and disappear randomly from George’s webpage.

Some Google-Fu will undoubtedly help you in your quest to track down all the bonus chapters, but a good place to start would be this page from fantasy publisher TOR that tracks all the releases and where they originated from. Good luck! In the hunt for extra Game of Thrones writing, you win or you have to wait another two years (please let it only be two years!) for the damn book like everyone else.
